1666: Amsterdam PC Requirements

Hardware ray tracing, SSD, and 8GB VRAM — the non-negotiable specs.

Last updated:

1666: Amsterdam is built on Unreal Engine 5 with mandatory hardware ray tracing. These requirements are enforced by the engine — the game will not launch on hardware that does not meet them. Read carefully before purchasing.

Official Minimum Requirements

Operating System: 64-bit Windows 10. Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K at 3.8GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 at 3.6GHz. Memory: 16GB RAM. Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB, AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB, or Intel Arc 580. DirectX: Version 12. Storage: 50GB available space. Additional Notes: SSD Required. Hardware Ray Tracing Required (8GB VRAM).

Hardware Ray Tracing — The Critical Requirement

Hardware ray tracing is not optional. The game is built around ray traced reflections, global illumination, and shadows. There is no way to disable it to accommodate weaker hardware. If your GPU does not support hardware ray tracing — this means an NVIDIA RTX series, AMD RX 6000 series or newer, or Intel Arc — the game will not run.

SSD Mandate

The engine requires an SSD. The game will not run from an HDD. This is enforced at launch — there is no exception or workaround. You need a boot drive or secondary SSD with 50GB free to install and run the game.

VRAM Requirements

The minimum is 8GB VRAM. The recommended is 12GB VRAM. The reason for the difference is the complexity of Amsterdam’s ray traced scenes. At minimum settings with 8GB, you will get the full visual fidelity but may need to reduce resolution or turn off additional post-processing effects. At 12GB, the game runs at full spec at 1440p and above without compromise.

Platform Availability

PC is the only currently available platform. Steam and Epic Games Store have the PC version. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have been announced but no confirmed release date. Console versions will likely have different specifications when confirmed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about 1666: Amsterdam.

Will the game run on an RTX 4070?

Yes. The RTX 4070 has 12GB VRAM and full ray tracing support, placing it above the recommended requirements.

Can I run the game on a laptop with an RTX 4060?

The RTX 4060 laptop variant has 8GB VRAM, which meets the minimum. Performance will be below the recommended tier but the game will run. Thermal management on laptops is a significant factor — many laptops throttle under sustained ray tracing loads.

Is Intel Arc graphics supported?

Yes. Intel Arc 580 meets the minimum GPU requirement. Intel Arc graphics support on Unreal Engine 5 is improved over earlier Arc generations but still less stable than NVIDIA or AMD at equivalent tiers.

Does the game support DLSS or FSR?

Unreal Engine 5 titles typically include both NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR support. Both are expected to be available as resolution scaling options, though this should be confirmed at launch.
