Last updated:

1666: Amsterdam features a cast of characters spanning three time periods: 1665 to 1666 through Noa Brooklyn, 1999 through Aaron, and the modern day through Clio. The narrative moves between these eras, and your understanding of each character deepens as the story unfolds across the Early Access campaign and future expansions.

Noa Brooklyn — The Collector

Noa is the primary protagonist. She is a young apprentice apothecary who was secretly trained by the Zaindaris coven to become the Collector — a witch whose role is to hunt and absorb the power of The Originals. Her commencement ritual in December 1665 triggers the events of the game. She wields witchcraft including Lux environmental abilities and Nux combat magic, fights with a broomstick as her primary weapon, and carries a Suspicion meter that tracks how visible her witch activities have been to witch hunters.

Noa’s character arc involves reconciling her duty as the Collector with her own identity and the choices the Zaindaris have made on her behalf. She is not a passive protagonist — she makes decisions, forms relationships, and her choices influence the story’s progression.

Aaron — The Familiar

Aaron is a university professor from 1999 who became trapped in 1666 during an occult ritual at an Amsterdam hotel. His consciousness now inhabits the body of a black cat — Noa’s familiar. He cannot fight, but he can scout, enter restricted areas, climb vertical surfaces, and coerce NPCs into helping Noa.

Aaron’s story is a tragedy layered over a dark comedy — he is aware of his situation, often commenting on the absurdity of his position, while still being deeply invested in helping Noa complete her mission. His relationship with Clio, whose father he is, is a source of significant narrative tension as the story unfolds.

Clio

Clio is Aaron’s daughter, living in the modern day. She is investigating the mysterious documents connected to her father and the events of 1666 Amsterdam. Her sections of the story run parallel to Noa and Aaron’s, gradually revealing the connections between the three time periods. She is not a controllable character in gameplay terms — she appears exclusively in narrative sequences.

Supporting Characters

The Zaindaris coven members appear throughout the early story as Noa’s handlers and mentors. Witch hunters are recurring antagonists who track Noa through the streets. NPCs in each district include ordinary citizens, former associates of The Originals, and characters whose lives have been affected by the supernatural events unfolding around them.

Character Relationships and Story Impact

1666: Amsterdam uses a relationship system where your interactions with major NPCs affect the story. Specific dialogue choices and investigation decisions influence how characters respond to Noa later in the game. These are not romance mechanics — they affect narrative outcomes and the information characters share with you, which in turn affects investigation and Esbat preparation.

See the Originals page for profiles of the beings you are hunting, and the Amsterdam Map for the districts where these characters appear.
