1666: Amsterdam Potions, Reagents, and the Alchemy Bench
What the safehouse actually crafts, why you stock before Nominem, and how death does not refund a draught.
The safehouse is not only a Suspicion sink and a fast-travel peg. It is the alchemy bench where Noa turns reagents gathered in Amsterdam into draughts you will actually drink on the street and under the moon. GamesRadar’s hands-on showed Désilets mixing health and shield potions from gathered materials. Launch beginner guides add Suspicion-reducing flasks so you do not have to sit in the sanctuary until the meter dies. This page is the crafting article. The building itself, autosaves, and “no Esbat recall” still belong on the safehouse guide.
Why potions exist in this loop
Daytime investigation wants you in civilian form with a low meter. A filled Suspicion bar invites militia and witch hunters; Game Informer described prison as a possible punishment if the street fight goes wrong, with the studio still tuning repeat punishments. A Suspicion draught is how you leave a crowded square without spending ten minutes of real time in the hideout. Healing and shields are how you treat the Esbat as a planned fight instead of a Coffer wipe on the first broom mistake.
Nux remains the scarce combat fuel — QTEs, Aaron conversion, and Originals. Potion Nux top-ups, when they exist in your recipe list, are emergency, not a replacement for hitting prompts. If you are emptying flasks to skip the rhythm of combat, you are fighting the design. Read combat and witchcraft.
Where reagents come from
Gardens, apothecary interiors, and Original-adjacent houses are the usual story. Life Echoes and dead animals feed Lux; Aaron can convert Lux and Nux. That conversion is not a potion, but it is the same economy: you are always deciding whether to spend a corpse-glow on a puzzle lantern or on the night. The Alchemist Bateratze is flavour toward this loop, not a confirmed extra drop table.
Recipes appear as you find them. The bench shows what you know and what you still lack. There is no evidence in public notes of a global auction house. If a district’s apothecary is locked, that is an Aaron problem first.
Stocking for an Esbat
Before you cast Nominem, the checklist is rude and short:
- Suspicion as close to empty as you can get — potion plus time in the house.
- At least two heals if the preview combat felt PS2-stiff (it often does; that is also a press complaint).
- A shield flask if you have the recipe and the night has adds.
- Do not enter the hunt planning to run home. The Esbat is a closed night. Fail or finish.
Coffer jewellery does not replace a heal. Death still dumps that night’s three-choice picks. Potions you already drank are gone; potions in the pack are a question of whether the fail state keeps inventory — play like you will lose the night’s progress, not like a Souls bloodstain that returns the flasks. When in doubt, craft extra before you leave.
Time does not tick at the bench
The day/night clock does not advance while you craft or fast-travel between discovered houses. That is the one mercy. Use it. The Esbat checklist is paper; the bench is the physical version.
If the game crashes after combat, Crash Fixes addressed some of those kicks — see troubleshooting. Still, Aaron-only minutes may not autosave. Craft, then take a story beat that writes a checkpoint if you can.

Safehouse for the room. Suspicion for the meter potions exist to cheat. Hunt Originals for why the night is expensive. Do not skip identity work because you have three heals; Nominem without a name is still a wasted moon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about 1666: Amsterdam.
Can I craft during the Esbat?
No. The night is closed. Craft at the safehouse before you trigger the hunt. If you fail, you return to daytime loops and restock.
Do potions carry across Esbat deaths?
Play as if the night’s Coffer picks are gone and flasks you used are gone. Do not assume a full refund. Restock at the bench after a wipe.
Is there a best potion?
Suspicion draughts save daylight. Heals save hunts. Shields help when adds exist. There is no public ranked list from Panache. Stock the fight you actually have.
Does the Alchemist Bateratze craft for me?
No. You craft at the bench as Noa. The Alchemist is a Sacred Tree flavour lean, not a second alchemy minigame confirmed in patch notes.
