1666: Amsterdam Languages, Subtitles, and Who Is Dubbed
Eleven Steam languages, one full English voice track, and why Dutch text is not a Dutch dub.
Steam’s store page for 1666: Amsterdam lists eleven interface languages. Only English is ticked for full audio as well as subtitles. Everyone else gets UI plus subs. That is the official grid as of late August 2026. This page is the language article so you do not buy expecting a French or German dub that is not shipping in Early Access.
The Steam grid
| Language | Interface | Full audio | Subtitles |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| French | Yes | — | Yes |
| Italian | Yes | — | Yes |
| German | Yes | — | Yes |
| Spanish (Spain) | Yes | — | Yes |
| Dutch | Yes | — | Yes |
| Simplified Chinese | Yes | — | Yes |
| Japanese | Yes | — | Yes |
| Korean | Yes | — | Yes |
| Portuguese (Brazil) | Yes | — | Yes |
| Russian | Yes | — | Yes |
If you play with English audio and French subs, that is a supported pairing. If you expected voix française on Noa, Early Access will disappoint. Victoria Diamond’s Mid-Atlantic English is the performance you hear; Chronicle #04 is the interview. Aaron is Xiao Yi Hernan in the same English track.
Dutch specifically
Amsterdam is a Dutch city. Players asked for Dutch dubbing in Chronicle #03 community Q&A. Panache’s answer: Dutch subtitles are already in. Dubbing is not in short-term plans, with a note that more commercial support could fund more languages later. Do not read “Dutch in the language list” as a native voice track.
This wiki itself is English, French, German, and Spanish — chosen as mainstream store languages without Simplified Chinese or Russian on the site, per the template’s non-Roblox rule. The game still ships those Steam locales. Switching the wiki language does not change the game’s audio files.
Captions, accessibility, and UI
Steam lists captions / subtitles as a feature. Full controller support is separate (see controls). Keyboard and mouse were already live before EA (Chronicle #03). There is no official claim of a menu screen reader. If a setting is missing, say so on Discord with a screenshot, not as a fake “accessibility patch 1.0.4.”
Text in 1666 is part of the fantasy: ledgers, gablestones, Nuxefer pages, Clio decoding. English-only audio means non-English players live on subs during cutscenes. That is a real fatigue cost on a 15-hour first chapter. Plan for it. Buyers who need a dub should wait or play in English.
This wiki’s languages versus the game
We localise guides into FR/DE/ES so searchers in those languages land on human copy, not a machine layer. Game proper names stay: Esbat, Nominem, Heeparan, Nuxefer, Originals/Originels as each locale already uses them. If a future patch adds a French dub, this page will change. Until Steam ticks another Full Audio column, assume English voices only.
For storefronts and whether the Prologue page still exists, use where to buy. For whether Mixed reviews should stop a non-English buyer, use Steam reviews — complaints about writing hit harder when you are reading subs under a Mid-Atlantic lead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about 1666: Amsterdam.
Is there a French or German voiceover?
Not on the Steam language grid in late August 2026. Those languages have interface and subtitles. English is the only full-audio tick.
Does the game have Dutch voice acting?
No in the short term. Chronicle #03: Dutch subtitles yes, Dutch dub not planned yet. More sales could fund more dubs later.
Can I mix English audio and another subtitle language?
Yes. That is how the grid is built. English voices plus French, German, or Spanish subs is a normal setup.
Will this wiki add Italian or Dutch?
This fan wiki ships EN, FR, DE, and ES. The game’s Steam list is wider. We are not an official localisation pack.
